ABOUT

Long before she could form a sentence, Kalen Henry was a singing machine with music running through her veins.

Singing was not so much a hobby for Kalen as it was an undeniable urge to partake in the world of music around her. This was largely encouraged by her father Trey Henry, a professional bassist who has dedicated more than 40 years of his life to the Los Angeles Session Musicians.

Kalen’s decision to join junior high choir marked the beginning of her official adventure into music. It was in this environment where she gained experience in public performance, utilizing music theory, and honing her skill of perfect pitch. Kalen performed several choral solos alongside her father, many consisting of Nat King Cole bass-voice arrangements. Such experiences inspired the duo to transform their hobby-like sessions of music collaboration into something life-changing.

Kalen’s musical endeavors shifted to that of studio singing, where she embraced the professionalism of studio recording and the literal creation of music that goes on behind the glass. It has since become one of her most favorite things to do in this world.

Over the past ten years, this father-daughter duo has contributed three outstanding cover-song albums to the realm of music, titled “Not Forgotten,” “Blurred,” and “Obscured.” The results of these albums are timeless sensory experiences full of heart and soul— ones that would certainly not exist without the brilliant and generous contributions of some of the most accomplished musicians in the Los Angeles music community.

Since beginning her adventure into music, Kalen has had the honor of attending the 2017 Grammy’s with The Tierney Sutton Band; signing a contract with Blue Canoe Records, a jazz-focused record label that helped promote and distribute her “Not Forgotten” album; working with both The Chemistry Set and Sonic Rooster production labels; recording background vocals for several independent artists; and performing with her father at local venues.

Trey and Kalen plan to keep spreading their music throughout venues all over Los Angeles. As for their next recording project, Kalen and Trey have set their sights on a release of 30-plus original songs.

Indeed, this music-making machine has been turned on for good, and there will always be more songs to come.
